After completion of this course, the licensee will be able to:
• Understand and explain the benefits of an energy efficient home.
• Recommend practical, energy efficient solutions to homebuyers including ways to make older homes more energy efficient and comfortable.
• Explain types and benefits of various HVAC equipment, thermostats, types of insulation, including various types of windows and water heating systems.
• Understand equipment efficiency ratings, such as SEER and AFUE.
• Estimate heating and cooling costs for an existing home.
• Estimate appliance cost.
• The learning strategies used in my class will include using real-life examples I have seen in my 35 years working in the residential energy efficiency market at Alabama Power Company, with simplified in-classroom exercises how to calculate HVAC cost and appliance cost, frequenting student interaction and questions.
• Students will be provided copies of classroom materials such as slides.
• From sharing my experience to in-class calculations, the licensee students will be engaged and leave the course better educated and have a clear understanding about residential energy in homes and how to help the buyers and sellers in the Residential Market.
